The Quiet Season, What Stepping Back Taught Me About Design
If you’ve noticed things have been a little quieter than usual, there’s a reason for that…
Over the past few months, I’ve had the opportunity to step into a different way of working, collaborating alongside an award-winning interior design studio on a significant and inspiring project in Oxfordshire. It’s been a deliberate shift away from the familiar rhythms of my own studio, and one that has been both challenging and incredibly rewarding.

Working at a larger scale, within a different structure, brings a fresh perspective. It exposes you to new ways of approaching space, materials, and the overall design process, insights that continue to shape my work as an interior designer in Winchester and across Hampshire. What this experience reinforced is that collaboration isn’t just a practical arrangement it’s a discipline. It asks you to hold your instincts lightly, to listen more closely, and to focus on achieving the best possible outcome for the client.
Being part of such a team has sharpened my eye and strengthened my approach. There’s a particular kind of growth that comes from working alongside other designers, where ideas are challenged, refined, and ultimately elevated. Now, as I return to my own studio, the work ahead feels more considered for the time taken. There’s a renewed clarity and a deeper focus on creating thoughtful, refined interiors that truly support the way my clients live, whether that’s a full home redesign or a more considered interior refresh.
Across Hampshire and beyond, I’m seeing a growing desire for homes that feel as good as they look, spaces that balance beauty with functionality, and elegance with comfort. Increasingly, clients are choosing to invest in their existing homes, refining and elevating them rather than starting over. This approach to interior design is not about excess, it's about intention. Thoughtful layouts, natural materials, considered lighting, and a strong connection to how a space is actually lived in.
